The Eels

I saw the Eels in LA when my girlfriend and I were there earlier this year.  It was a great show and they're one of my favourites so here's a little tribute to those hombre lobos.

Smooth Lines

Just got back from a long break overseas and decided I really need to keep this thing updated.  Inspired by my new Koastal skateboard and the legendary photography of Dick Hoole I've created this piece. Working on a few new techniques here I picked up from my travels in the US and making a bit of a tribute to the unreal Californian coast and my brothers in the Cuskies boardriding club.  I've rediscovered my love of surfing, skating and music lately... we'll see where this takes my art.  I'll be posting at least 1 image a week from now on, so let me know what you think...

Adios

Jake's Balloon Blast

Just finished the 3rd in the Jake's series titled Jake's Balloon Blast.  This was the most fun and easiest to illustrate of the three.  We've just signed on for 3 more so keep an eye out.

Here's a sneak peak of JBB:

Jake's Monster Mess

I haven't posted anything for a while... I've been flat out, but it's no excuse.
I've decided to make a conscious effort to post regularly with little sketches and development work for projects I'm working on.  Here is the first of many more to come...

I got my hands on a copy of my latest book, Jake's Monster Mess, written by Ken Spillman.  We're starting to kick a few goals with the series and I just finished work on the 3rd titled Jake's Balloon Blast.  I'll post some more on that later but for now here's a sneak peek of JMM - in stores early May. Enjoy!

Surf Art

Inspired by more surfing of late and the latest surf film from Taylor Steele, I've decided to do more surf art and experiment a little with creating a series of surf illustrations.  Here's the first 1 using a lot of watercolour and enhancing a little with digital.
Enjoy...

Colour Study - SF

This is a colour study for a new painting I'm working on.  It's inspired by a photo that is very symbolic of a great trip I had in the states a few years back.  Here's the original pic taken by my friend Phoenix around sunset at the top of Lombard St, San Francisco.  It was the last photo taken on a cheap disposable camera, I still love this photo, cheers Phoenix!

NYC

A new piece I did for Lisa's birthday.  She asked me for something with a little girl and a puzzle and seeing we're heading to NY next year and it's always been her dream to go there this is what I came up with.

Sir Chumpy Boy

Who better as a subject to work on than my faithful co-worker named Chumpy.
Just working on a few new techniques here and working with some new watercolours.
He thinks he's a person so I gave him the Sir tag.

Painting stage using my new Holbein artists watercolour paints.

My work station...

The original pencil sketch which is scanned and worked back into the painted version to keep that traditional look.

Hope you enjoy it...

Book Launch

Photo's from the book launch of Crocodile Cake and Jake's Gigantic List at the State Library of WA last Monday night.  It was a great night, and an honour for me.  Thanks to everybody who made it happen and everyone who came. My work will be exhibited there until the 7th of September.
